Wu Pu-Yu

Wu Pu-Yu started learning the piano at the age of five.  She studied under Mrs. Liu Chi-Shin, Mr. Guo Chang-Yang, Mr. David Saidenberg (Russian American), Mrs. Liu Zheng-Rong and Ms. Lu Xue-Ving.  At the age of nine she started the flute, studying under Mrs. Yang Shu-Zhu and Mrs. Song Li-Man.  During Wuling High School, she won the first prize in the school piano competition.  Afterwards Pu-Yu entered the Soochow University and majored in piano and flute.  While in Australia, she has studied jazz and improvisation with Mr. Colin Loughnan, from The Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Prior to 1998, Pu-Yu held the post of Taoyuan Philharmonic Orchestra musical first flute and the Dandelion Flute Ensemble orchestra's first flute and bass flute, for a tour around in Taiwan.  In 1998, she held her first solo piano recital in the Soochow University concert hall.  In 2000, Pu-Yu obtained the YAMAHA teaching certificate and during this period teaching in Taiwan, she conducted regular student public concerts.

She met her husband to be, Parris Macleod whilst he was touring Taiwan with Andrew Clermont.  After the marriage, Pu-Yu moved to Australia and formed the instrumental duet "Jade" with Macleod, performing primarily original compositions.

With significant acclaim, Pu-Yu has been invited to perform in many music festivals, such as: Bellingen Global Carnival, Insomnia Rock Festival, Wintermoon Folk Festival, Hawkesbury National Fiddle Festival, WOMADelaide World Music Festival and so on.  In an article reviewing WOMADelaide, the critics from The Adelaide Advertiser described "the delicious flute playing of Pu-Yu Macleod....".

In 2002, as an international special guest, Pu-Yu was invited to participate in the Australian Tamworth Country Music Festival.  She has made regular appearances at this annual festival ever since.

In 2005, Pu-Yu performed with vocalist Annalisa Kerrigan, at the AFAP charity concert in Tamworth.  The same year, she published her first personal classical piano album, "Chromatic Fantasy" and established "The Reason to Breathe" quartet - conducting an eastern Australian tour at the end of that year.

In May, 2006, Pu-Yu was invited to perform, with London's Australian pianist and composer, Tom Donald, in a world premier of Tom's flute work "One Tree Hill".

In addition, Pu-Yu has performed on many albums and theme music, for example, Daryl Melbourne's "The Kelly Gang" and Scott Thomas' "Bohemian".
